Mailing News....

The Postal Service will implement the new rates on Sunday, January 23, 2013.  These rates have been kept to the rate of inflation; but, the individual classes vary noticeably. The Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMB) will now be required for all automation discounts.

Shape based pricing is the Postal Service's recognition that the cost of mail processing and delivery is fundamentally affected by the shape of the piece, not merely its weight.  This requirement remains. The design decisions for a mail piece will have very significant postage cost implications with these new rates and processing rules.  It is important to review mail piece design of all mailings, particularly new designs, with the shape based rules in mind.  Mail Sort will be happy to help with any questions you might have regarding these new Postal Service rules.  A primer on shape is here

The Postal Service will require that Full Service IMB will be implemented in JAnuary of 2014. Mail Sort expects this to have minimal impact on our mailers except additional co-ordination regarding mailing dates will be necessary.
